The new Renewables Obligation Banding scheme will be introduced in April 2009 and this will provide the platform that will enable the UK's renewable energy market to develop. Also importantly the Government has stated it will raise RO levels to up to 20% to ensure “guaranteed headroom” which will keep the RO ahead of actual levels of developed renewable generation.
 The UK therefore will progressively move from having its energy needs predominately supplied by fossil fuels to a situation where an increasing share of its energy mix will be supplied by a range of renewable fuels. |
